UX/UI Checklist

Written By: Andre Perreault

  • Ensure homepage (and other) headlines (H1, H2, H3) are clear and concise. Target the keyword relevant to the business. Any large text should be helpful and specific. (NO: Get on the path to growth. YES: Grow your business with the leading subscription management platform)
  • Navigation labels should not be generic. Keyword focused. (NO: Batteries. YES: Car Batteries, Golf Cart Batteries, Marine Batteries, etc.)
  • Sliders with more than four slides should not be present, they bog down the page load. If you have more than 4, it’s unlikely people are waiting around to see the rest of them.
  • Avoid stock photos if possible. Using your own proprietary imagery shows authenticity. Anyone can make a site and slap stock on it.
  • Remove bright-colored social media icons at the top of the page/in the header. These encourage users to leave your site quickly. Keep them in the footer.
  • Evergreen (non-news) content shouldn’t have a date within the content, unless required for schema purposes (such as date published or date modified).
  • Avoid large, blocky paragraphs (most readers will skip). Break up the paragraphs to less than 3 sentences, or use bullet lists.
  • Press releases are not relevant to web content. Instead, write the story that the press release hopes to capture.
  • Testimonials should exist throughout the website and not on a labeled page.
  • Use contact forms over email links.
  • Ensure thank-you pages are not dead-ends. Add a conversion or a link on the page that promotes engagement to less-trafficked areas of your site.
  • Create a page instead of embedding a PDF file. PDFs:
  • Make it hard to measure traffic
  • Have no share button (require downloads and PDF readers)
  • Make it harder to update content
  • Are not the most search engine friendly (they can’t be crawled)
  • Use red, orange, or yellow backgrounds for CTA buttons, they are known to improve conversion rates. Use once per page, rather than for every link or button on a page.
